Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I need experience?
A. It is not necessary to have any experience.  You will receive both On-the-Job-Training and classroom instruction.

Q. Do I need to be employed?
A. Yes, working for a licensed contractor is required in order to earn On-The-Job-Training hours.  If you are currently unemployed contact our apprenticeship staff, we will give you a list of contractors to contact.  

Q. If I have experience, will I have to start at the first level?
A. This is up to your employer. 
     
Q. How much does the program cost?
A. Typically the contractor pays for the program. 

Q. When will I go to school?
A. Apprentices attend school two nights a week. 
    Electrical and HVAC attend Tuesday/Thursday from 7:00pm - 10:00pm. 
    Carpentry, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, and Fire Sprinkler attend Monday/Wednesday from 7:00pm - 10:00pm.

Q. Where are classes held?
ABC's apprenticeship classes are held at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Dale Mabry's Campus and Sarasota County Technical Institute (SCTI).  These are ABC's programs we just utilizes their classrooms.  All program questions should be directed to ABC.
